My intent for this series is to play with the life of each piece prior to, within and then beyond the flat file drawer or gallery wall. Inspired by one of my favorite museum heist stories, The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnson, I have been considering the act of pulling open a file drawer to find paper representations of things that seem both impossible and fleeting. Visitors will encounter imagery of dead birds intact and poised with awkward limbs, cut flowers still vibrant, bright green citrus leaves, blushing pink hearts and ripe fruit that is also flowering. For me, these pieces have become an exploration of ways I deem certain objects or experiences as valuable and my desire to own, keep, steal, sustain, share, sell or gift them.
